How's Life?

20:10:00

“Drifting,”

I say drifting because I am not drowning but I am not exactly swimming. Okay, okay! I need to stop being so melodramatic. I am happy and honestly life is good but I am a little stressed (but that is nothing new). I honestly believe if you are not a little bit stressed then you are not doing something that motivates or is important to you. I’ve mentioned in the past that I am very involved with a lot of organizations and leadership roles on my college campus. Now, that this semester is getting closer to the end a lot of things are starting to pile up. An enormous mountain of deadlines, meetings, articles to write, presentations, exams… this list could go on forever.

The beauty of fall always turns my frown upside down. The leaves flutter to the ground, coffee is in high demand, and the sound of boots hit the concrete.  Besides the craziness that is university, a lot as been happening with my family. There have been more lows than highs. My trick is to surround myself with caring and loving people, eat whatever I want and to pray. Prayer is one of those underrated forms of relaxation. When I pray it is not this “elaborate routine”. It can be as simple as sitting in the bus and making a mental note to myself and to God. I sound insane but trust me, it works! I am going to leave you all with this verse,

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Why Donating Is Important To Me

16:45:00

Growing up, I lived in warmer climates. I was never exposed to the colder seasons like fall (autumn for my British readers 😉) and winter until I moved to the United States for high school. I saw snow for the first time when I was sixteen. Since, I grew up with warm weather all year round I never got to experiment with fall fashion. I think that is why I fell in love with fall weather and fashion. The moment the temperature drops, I am online looking for new fall pieces! To make room for the new, I like to donate my older pieces of clothing.

For this post, I am partnering with the amazing people at boohoo to let you know the importance of donating. I prefer donating clothing than the alternative, which is throwing them away. Throwing clothes away is wasteful. This year I donated a scarf and a sweatshirt to Goodwill. Goodwill is a nonprofit organization that uses the profits made from selling donated items to enhance the dignity and quality of life of individuals and families by strengthening communities, eliminating barriers to opportunity, and helping people in need reach their full potential. Donating can be in the form of giving clothes, books, or money to a clause you believe in or think will better someone else's life. As cheesy as it sounds, a little goes a long way. One of the items I donated, I have had since I experienced my first fall in the U.S.. I normally do not like giving away things that have sentimental value but I think it is time to say goodbye to the old and say hello to the new!

Denim On Denim

19:13:00
This is one outfit I thought I would never be able to pull off. You guys know I am in love with denim. Although one thing I have never done is wear a full blue denim outfit. The closest I have come to an outfit like this is a blue denim shirt or jacket with black jeans. I’m not sure but something about wearing all denim in the same wash and shade reminds me of the 90s. The trick to pulling this look off is making sure there is a “buffer” between your two denim pieces. In this case, it is my olive green top and black belt. This helps even out all that denim, so you don't walk around looking too crazy. It is also a good idea to add a printed item to the look. I finally got to style my ankara bag, I have had for ages. Even though this outfit is quite simple the detail on my jeans of the fringe/fray hem gives the whole look that extra touch. I actually cut and frayed the hem myself. It was very easy to do. Since, fringe jeans are a huge trend this season I recommend doing it yourself. Get an old pair of jeans and some scissors instead of spending a lot of money on a trend that may go out of style. What do you guys think of denim on denim looks? Would you try it?

IN MY FEELINGS - PLAYLIST

23:31:00
These past couple of weeks, I have been in my feelings. Everyone goes through those gloomy phases. My weekdays are ridiculously busy, so when the weekend rolls around I do not want to leave my apartment. I realized that my music taste changes depending on my mood. Since, I am going through this glooming phase and spending my weekends in my apartment this gives me some time to reflect and recharge. Ask anyone that knows me and they will tell you, I am always happy (a little too happy). Once in a while, I get in my feelings. When this happens, I prefer to be alone and listen to music. That's why I wanted to share some of the songs I've had on repeat. I also started watching an amine called Her Lie In April and it is very emotional. One of the songs on this playlist is from this series. It has no vocals yet it speaks volumes. Enjoy!

Lazy Days

08:25:00
My weekend is winding down and I had a vey relaxed one. Yesterday was Nigerian’s Independence day. I hope all my fellow Nigerians had a lovely day of celebration. I had dinner with friends. We talked about the reasons we love our country and how there is still a lot for Nigeria to accomplish to reach her full potential. Then we played afrobeats and danced till 2am. I get tired super easily but I powered through and it was a great!

I wore this outfit last Thursday. I call this my lazy-day-can’t-really-be-bothered-look. If I have to leave my apartment and be an “active member of society” when I would rather be in bed and catching up on Quantico. My go-to lazy day outfit is something oversized, a hat and some sneakers. Lazy days are the best! The feeling of having no obligations and your schedule is completely free. Once, I was done with classes on Thursday this was the best outfit to transition into sweats and just chill. How do you spend your lazy days?
