Mirrored Frames

05:21:00
Happy Sunday! I am going to keep this post short and sweet. I am trying to start my homework and get ready for the week. I have a lot of work to catch up on and a couple of meetings to plan for next week. Before I go and we talk about these amazing sunglasses?! The amazing people at ZeroUV sent me these shades and I am in love! I love the pinkish gold tint and the mirror effect. I can’t wait for spring break, so I can wear them while lying on the beach. I don’t think I have mentioned where I am going for spring break. I’ll keep that a secret for now. Let’s just say it’s somewhere warm. Let the count down begin!

3 Ways To Spend Your Saturday Night Alone

12:58:00
1. Netflix YouTube & Chill
Ahhh good ol’ YouTube. I can spend hours watching the occasional clothing haul or end up on the weird side of YouTube watching hot knife videos (if you know, you know). Usually, my go-to would be Netflix but I have run out of shows to watch. Any suggestions?
2. Cook!
Cooking is still new to me. I would honestly prefer ordering takeout and calling it a day but recently I’m enjoying cooking. Wow. I can’t believe I just typed that. 2 years ago, if you asked me to cook I would laugh in your face and go microwave some ramen. Harsh, I know. But cooking always seemed like work to me but now I love it! I love reading food blogs and trying to recreate their recipes. I put on some relaxing tunes on SoundCloud and cook away.
3. Face Mask & Online Shopping
Right now, it is more like face mask and online window shopping. That doesn’t stop me from spending hours adding things to my cart. A while ago, I got myself some face masks. Even though, I cannot see any visible differences with my skin, it feels amazing!
How do you spend your Saturday nights in? Remember, it is good to take sometime for yourself. There is nothing wrong with some me-time.

Blush Tones

14:09:00
SAY NO TO GRAY, NAVY AND BLACK! It’s time we put away dark tones and reach for the lighter shades. HA! Who am I kidding?! My love for black is eternal. Although, today I bring you an outfit that is a bit outside my comfort zone. I really tried to stay away from wearing black but as you can see by my jeans, that did not happen. It’s the thought that counts, right? I am not going to lie, it was difficult not switching my white sneakers for my favorite black combat boots. I made an effort not to wear a lot of dark colors and it paid off! A lot of people (myself included) are guilty of wearing only dark colors during winter. We fall into this routine of black coat, black boots and we are out the door. Just because the sky is grey does not mean your clothes should be too. I am not saying you should through out all your dark clothing but once in a while, slap on some lighter shades. This has nothing to do with my outfit but I wanted to talk about #WomensMarch that took place yesterday. It was great to see women and men from all works of life supporting one another. We still have a long way to go with enacting change but it was refreshing to see so much positivity on my social media feed.

Knits & Sweaters We All Need

08:10:00

When shopping for cozy sweaters that can get me though winter, I look for comfort, knit pattern and layering potential. I can not stand when a sweater is titchy and rubs harshly against my skin. That is one of the reasons, I am not too fond of online shopping when it comes to sweaters. I love when sweaters have cool patterns or a unique detail that elevates the overall look. The most important aspect is layering potential. It does not make sense to buy a sweater that is too big or fluffy to wear under a coat. When I find sweaters that check all three boxes that is an automatic add to my shopping cart. Above are some sweaters I've been loving. I always gravitate towards softer colors like shades of creams, grays and blush tones.

Silk Sounds - Playlist

19:12:00
New Year, new music?! A lot of artists have been dropping new music this year and we are only nine days into 2017. I am not complaining. I'm just trying to catch up. I have been LOVING Tory Lanez's latest mixtape. Is it bad to say I might love it a little more than his actual album? He revived a lot of 90's/early 2000s hits. It's like taking a walk down memory lane. Even though, I did not include Ed Sheeran in this playlist I've been loving the two singles he released four days ago. This playlist includes mainly underground tracks. The only mainstream song is Bad & Boujee by Migos because that has been my anthem for the past 4 months. The way Donald Glover (Childish Gambino) thanked them during his Golden Globe acceptance speech was hilarious. I am happy Atlanta won Best TV Comedy. Such a great show. Anyways, I'm rambling. Enjoy the playlist!

2017, Please Be Good.

16:07:00
Happy New Year!!! I know I am about 5 days late but I have been dreading writing this post. Don’t get me wrong, I love New Years. The idea of a fresh start with countless possibilities. Although I can not talk about my prayers, goals and hope for 2017 without talking about 2016. To step into the future we must reflect on our past. By a general consensus, we can all agree that 2016 was not a good year. There were more negatives than positives in 2016. The U.S. presidential election, Brexit, the numerous terrorists attacks, more events involving police brutality and this is just to name a few. Personally, 2016 was not great for me. My family went through some lows that I do not really talk about (not even to my closest friends). I lost a family member. There was another very painful family related issue that I can not even bring myself to type. The constant fall of Nigerian’s economy. The ridiculous exchange rate of the Naira to the US dollar has made things a little more difficult for my family to do anything. Both my Brother and I go to college in the states and due to the exchange rate we have been a lot more cautious with how we spend money.

Enough talking about the negatives. My family and friends know I am not one to stay sad and dwell on the negative. I’m the kind of person that would hit her little toe on the side of a table and laugh through the pain. Even though 2016 was not the best year, I still had some amazing moments and achievements. As my mother and brother always sing (in the most animated and hilarious Nigerian accent), “count your blessings, name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord has done.” I did really well academically, Marveling-Mind grew tremendously and I got to work with some amazing brands, I went on my first road trip, I attended a journalism conference on Washington DC, I was Editor-in-Chief for my school’s magazine and produced some of my best work.

For 2017, I only have one resolution and that is, “do what makes me happy.” If I do not want to do something, I will not do it. Simple as 1,2,3. I realized over the years that I have turned into a ‘yes-man’. I put other people’s happiness before mine. Which is not always a bad thing but I noticed it started to emotionally drain me. Let’s just say that 2017 is going to see a not-so-nice Feyi. 2017, you do not have to be the “best year of my life” or “the year that changed the world” all I ask is please be good. Be good to me and be good to us.
